Oatis: The Story Behind the Name
Oatis isn’t just our logo—he’s where everything started.
He was my first dog as an adult, a black German Shepherd I originally purchased from a Sheriff’s Department breeder with the intention of him becoming a K9. At the time, I thought I might work my way into the K9 unit.
That never happened—and looking back, it worked out the way it was supposed to. I later learned that if he had gone into service, I would have never gotten him back.
So Oatis stayed with me.
A Name That Stuck
The name came in a way that still makes me laugh.
During the first few days I had him, before he was named, he constantly had the hiccups. One night while watching The Andy Griffith Show, the town drunk, Otis, was on. For some reason, I came across it spelled “Oatis”—whether it was a typo or a joke, I’m still not sure.
I liked it, so I kept it.
Later, a vet tried to pronounce it exactly how it’s spelled—“O-A-TIS.” My sister, a second-grade teacher, corrected her:
“When two vowels go a-walking, the first one does the talking—it’s pronounced Otis.”
We laughed and never changed the spelling.
What Oatis Represents
Oatis turned into more than just a dog.
He was steady. Loyal. Always paying attention. No matter what was going on—long days, early mornings, building a business from the ground up—he showed up the same way every day.
That mindset stuck.

He’s also a reminder of something bigger, which is why giving back to animal rescues is part of who we are. It’s not marketing—it’s personal.
Oatis wasn’t just a dog.

Crestwood General Contracting and Crestwood Electrical Contracting represent a small business which is family owned and based in Phoenix, Arizona.
The owner of Crestwood has over 30 years of construction experience and demands excellence from everyone in the company. Everyone at Crestwood takes pride in what they do, how it is done and in behaving in an ethical and professional manner.
Crestwood believes in charity and if you can’t tell from the logos of the company, strongly supports various animal charities in the greater Phoenix area.
Crestwood is a family company and employees all of it’s workforce. We do not believe in taking advantage of our employees to offer a better price to clients. We do not understand why all contractors will not stand behind their work like we do. We are professionals and our work should stand the test of time. Materials will fail over time, that is the nature of material but workmanship should never fail.
