If you've seen the dogs in the Crestwood logo, you may have wondered why a general contracting and roofing company has a dog as such a big part of its identity.

It starts with one very special dog named Otis.

Otis was a black German Shepherd and the first dog Crestwood's owner had as an adult. He originally came from a Sheriff's Department breeder with the thought that he might eventually become a working K9.

Life had other plans.

The move into a K9 unit never happened, which turned out to be a blessing. Had Otis entered service, there was a good chance he wouldn't have remained his dog.

Instead, Otis stayed home—and became family.

Otis turned into more than just a dog.

He was steady. Loyal. Always paying attention. No matter what was going on—long days, early mornings, building a business from the ground up—he showed up the same way every day.

That mindset stuck.

It became the foundation for how Crestwood operates:

Otis (really spelled Oatis) was my first of many dogs as an adult. He is the reason I fell in love with dogs and the reason I began to rescue dogs. Otis or “Oti” as I often called him, lived a great life and I wanted to be sure other dogs received the same opportunity that he got. I felt I could do that. At one point, when i lived in a much different house outside of Phoenix, I had 21 rescue dogs staying with me. It was crazy and fun! If Otis was never in my life, I would have never met any of the hundreds of dogs I have known since him and each of them have each stolen a little piece of my heart. Thank you Oatis!
